SELCHP not only works in the community; we work for the community. We believe we have a direct social responsibility for the area in which we operate. SELCHP actively supports charitable educational and community based projects in the area.

The SELCHP Community Fund
The fund was founded in 1994 by the former Chairman, Professor Gerald Atkins OBE. Since then it has helped over 100 well deserving projects in and around the immediate area of the facility. Donations to date are in excess of £145,000.

The aim of the charity is to support small organisations within the local community in realising projects, especially of a self-help nature relating to regeneration and the environment. SELCHP is proud to continue its support for well-deserving projects in the local area.

Millwall Community Scheme
1995 £7,000 Obtained match-funding which facilitated the purchase of a brand new minibus for the use of the scheme (to run the after-school clubs etc.)
1999 £5,000 sponsorship of the scheme’s coaching programme
2000 £1,000 sponsorship of the scheme’s coaching programme
2002 £1,000 sponsorship of the scheme’s coaching programme
The Millwall Community Scheme has the advantage of being situated in close proximity to the plant and has thus benefited from the community fund.

Willow Dene Nursery
SELCHP’s support for Willow Dene Nursery has now been ongoing for 8 years with donations totalling over £12,000. The Nursery, based in Plumstead, enables 40 children with very special needs to acquire vital skills, which they are unable to learn elsewhere.

The children at Willow Dene enjoy using a “sensory room” – which they can explore, experience and achieve in an environment, which can stimulate, educate and entertain.

Ilderton Primary School
This Primary school is located just within a mile from SELCHP has also benefited from the funds. Over the past 7 years, Ilderton Primary has received donations up to £11,500. In 1997, a substantial donation was made which helped the school with the cost of new playground equipment.

Childeric Primary School
The Childeric Primary School is located in New Cross. The school has received cash support from the SELCHP Community Fund in the past few years up to the sum of £6,500.00. Sponsorship was made towards well deserved projects such as refurbishing the school’s library and helping the funding of an artist in residence.

The Prince’s Trust
SELCHP also supports the Prince’s Trust by ‘adopting’ a team of Volunteers each year from either the London Borough of Lewisham or Greenwich alternatively.
